Poland - Factors to Watch Nov 24

ELECTIONS

Poland's ruling Civic Platform (PO) party has secured a surprising win in regional elections. The centre-right PO won 33 percent of the total number of seats in provincial assemblies. Opposition challenges the results and calls for demonstrations.

INSURANCE POLICIES

The antimonopoly office wants a change in law that would allow Poles to cancel their disadvantageous insurance investment policies without penalties. Changes may cost insurance sector 4 billion zlotys ($1.18 billion), according to Puls Biznesu daily.

INTEGER

Integer.pl, the owner of a private mail company InPost, has been awarded a 30 million zlotys a year state contract for mail services, Rzeczpospolita daily quoted its chief executive Rafal Brzoska as saying.

Integer.pl's parcel locker company easyPack will this year become profitable in Ukraine, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, Brzoska said, adding that in 2015 it will also achieve profitability in Britain, France and Italy.

PKP CARGO

PKP Cargo will hire drones to monitor its trains, as stealing coal has became a serious problem for the Poland's biggest rail cargo company, Dziennik Gazeta Prawna daily reported.

GRUPA LOTOS

Poland's No.2 refiner Grupa Lotos, which plans a share issue worth 1 billion zlotys, wants to invest 350-470 million zlotys in two gas fields, Lotos head told Parkiet daily. Production may start in 2017.

KOMPANIA WEGLOWA

Poland's biggest coal group Kompania Weglowa's supervisory board dismissed company's Chief Executive Officer as the state owned firm still struggles with low coal prices and high costs, Rzeczpospolita daily reported.
