Montreal Victoire sign D Catherine Daoust

The Montreal Victoire announced the re-signing of defender Catherine Daoust on Thursday to fill the void created with Amanda Boulier being placed on long-term injured reserve with an upper-body injury. Daoust, 29, began this season on the Reserve Player list after playing in 24 games during Montreal's inaugural season. The NBA saw its most-watched Christmas Day lineup in five years, the league said on Thursday, as it went head-to-head with the NFL's splashy debut on streaming giant Netflix. An average of 5.25 million viewers tuned in per game across five games on Walt Disney Co's ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, Disney+ and ESPN+, the NBA said, up 84% over last year's audience.

Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb (shoulder) done for year

The Dallas Cowboys are shutting down CeeDee Lamb for the rest of the season after the star wideout played through a shoulder injury for nearly two months. Lamb initially sprained the AC joint in his right shoulder on Nov. 3 but has not missed any of the Cowboys' first 15 games this season.

Red Wings fire Derek Lalonde, hire Todd McLellan

The Detroit Red Wings fired Derek Lalonde and named Todd McLellan their new head coach on Thursday. Lalonde, 52, is 13-17-4 in his third season on the bench and 89-86-23 overall. Detroit is seventh in the Atlantic Division and on pace to miss the playoffs for the ninth straight season.

QB Teddy Bridgewater to unretire, rejoin Lions

Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is coming out of retirement to rejoin the Detroit Lions, coach Dan Campbell confirmed Thursday. Bridgewater, 32, appeared in one game (three snaps) for the Lions last season. He announced his retirement in February and spent the 2024 season coaching his alma mater Miami Northwestern High School to a Class 3A Florida state championship.

Pacers F Obi Toppin (left ankle sprain) briefly exits vs. Thunder

Pacers forward Obi Toppin was sidelined for a short time during Indiana's home game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday night after spraining his left ankle in the first quarter. Toppin slipped while trying to pull up for an elbow jumper 8:22 into the contest and limped to the sideline before falling to the floor in pain. He had to be helped to the locker room and was listed as questionable to return before he re-entered the game with 6:05 left in the second quarter.

Reports: Delaware State hires DeSean Jackson as head coach

Longtime NFL wide receiver DeSean Jackson will take over as head coach at Delaware State, Victory Formation Media and ESPN reported Thursday. If confirmed, it would be the latest data point in a growing trend of FCS football teams hiring well-known former players -- with little to no prior coaching experience -- in an effort to stand out.

Pat Riley says Heat are not trading Jimmy Butler

Six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler isn't going anywhere, Miami Heat team president Pat Riley announced Thursday. Miami coach Jim Larranaga resigns amid slow start

Jim Larranaga stepped down as coach of the Miami Hurricanes, effective immediately, on Thursday. "After more than fifty years in college coaching, it is simply time," Larranaga, 75, said. "There is never a great moment to step away, but I owe it to our student-athletes, our staff and the University of Miami to make this move now when my heart is simply no longer in the game and I owe it to Liz, Jay, Jon, and my grandchildren to be a greater part of their lives.
