FINMA "in close contact" with Credit Suisse
ZURICH, Jan 17 (Reuters) - Swiss financial market supervisory authority FINMA on Monday took note of Credit Suisse's abrupt change of leadership, declining to say whether it was looking into the bank's findings on former chairman Antonio Horta-Osorio that prompted the ouster.
"The Bank has informed FINMA of the resignation and new appointment of the Chairman of the Board," a spokesperson said in an emailed statement. "As usual, FINMA does not comment further on board changes at supervised institutions."
Credit Suisse on Monday announced the abrupt departure of Chairman Antonio Horta-Osorio following an internal probe into his personal conduct, including breaches of COVID-19 rules, appointing Axel Lehmann his successor with immediate effect.
Asked whether it had been made aware of the findings of Credit Suisse's investigation, the watchdog said it had been in close contact with Credit Suisse "since the quarantine issues arose," without providing any further detail. FINMA did not say whether it would be initiating its own proceedings. (Reporting by Brenna Hughes Neghaiwi, editing by Silke Koltrowitz)
