FUNERAL ROSES STOLEN FROM CEMETERY
Police are hunting a thief who was captured on CCTV stealing 51 roses from a cemetery.
West Midlands Police said the theft from Robin Hood Cemetery in Shirley near Solihull was reported to them on July 19.
Widower Maurice Powell told the Birmingham Mail he had bought a rose for every year of his marriage to Sandra, who died of cancer aged 70, and laid them in a memorial area at the cemetery on July 18 - the day of her funeral.
When the 75-year-old returned the day after his wife's cremation he found the bouquet had been stolen.
He said: "I can't understand why anyone would do this. How low can some people get? If they can pinch from the grieving and the dead, who else would they take from?"
CTTV of the theft, which took place at around 3.30pm, has been passed to West Midlands Police.
A spokesman for the force said: "The theft of 51 red roses from a grave at a Solihull cemetery was reported to police on 19 July.
"The report is being progressed and enquiries continue."
