STRACHAN TO CARRY QUEEN'S BATON
Scotland football manager Gordon Strachan will carry the Queen's Baton today as the relay enters the final leg of its journey.
Strachan will take hold of the baton outside Glasgow's Hampden Park, the home of Scotland's national football team, which is hosting athletics competitions during the Commonwealth Games.
He will become one of the last people to pick up the baton as its journey across 70 nations and territories of the Commonwealth comes to an end with the opening ceremony at Celtic Park on Wednesday.
The baton, which contains a message from the Queen, has travelled throughout Scotland carried by thousands of baton-bearers including famous faces, charity workers and community volunteers.
It will start day 39 of the relay travelling by mountain bike at Cathkin Braes Mountain Bike trails before going to the Castlemilk area and then on to Hampden.
The baton will also take in Ibrox stadium, the city's House for an Art Lover and the Bellahouston Ski Centre before evening celebrations are held at Queen's Park.
Singing star Susan Boyle took part in the relay yesterday, taking it with her to visit Yorkhill Royal Hospital for Sick Children after the baton arrived in the host city on Sunday.
On the first day of its journey around Glasgow it visited the city centre, including the Merchant City, Buchanan Street and George Square, stopping off at some of the Games venues, including the Emirates Arena and Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
The symbol of the Games was sent on its way by the Queen at Buckingham Palace on October 9 last year.
Its final destination will be the opening ceremony at Celtic Park tomorrow.
