SCUDAMORE BANNED FOR COURSE BLUNDER

Tom Scudamore was banned for 12 days by the Cartmel stewards after taking the wrong course in the Champagne Louis Roederer Handicap Hurdle.

The rider was partnering the Karen McLintock-trained Run Forest Run in the three-and-a-quarter-mile contest, a horse who was last seen pulling up over fences at Market Rasen a fortnight ago.

Scudamore appeared to think he was riding over fences rather than hurdles as he angled his mount on to the chase course shortly after the start and jumped the first fence while the rest of the field took the hurdle track.

The jockey quickly realised the error of his ways and pulled his mount up, but it was not enough to prevent him receiving a hefty suspension as the stewards found him guilty of taking the wrong course at a subsequent inquiry.

Scudamore will be sidelined on August 13, 14, 16, 17, 19, 21, 22, 23 and 25-28 inclusive.

Favourite Galley Slave sadly suffered a fatal fall in the race, resulting in a delay for the rest of the card.
