MILLAR EARNS SCOTLAND CALL-UP
James Millar has been called up to Scotland's Commonwealth Games judo squad as a replacement for James Austin, who was forced to withdraw due to injury last week.
Olympian Austin, 31, who suffered a first-round exit at London 2012, was due to compete at the 100kg weight, along with team-mate Euan Burton but was ruled out with a knee injury and his place will be taken by three-time British champion Millar for the event in Glasgow.
Austin said: "I'm truly gutted to be missing out on the Games. I tried to work through the injury and would like to thank everyone at JudoScotland for supporting me with this.
"I want to say good luck to the team, and I hope to be there cheering them all on to medals."
Team Scotland chef de mission Jon Doig added: "It is hugely disappointing to lose James Austin so close to the Games, and we wish him a very speedy recovery. The thoughts of the Team are with him as we all know how much this meant to him."
