BRAZIL V GERMANY RATINGS
BRAZIL:
JULIO CESAR: Brazil's second-round hero now a villain. Worst goal conceded was the Klose one he spilled before the follow-up tap-in . Three out of 10.
MAICON: Retained for his supposed defensive abilities, but was completely outclassed by Mesut Ozil. Brought further shame on himself by diving for a penalty in the second half. 3.
DAVID LUIZ: Was supposed to be a responsible leader at the back, but instead went gallivanting up field and looked very vulnerable inside his own box. 3.
DANTE: Nowhere near as strong as the man he replaced - Thiago Silva. Was constantly bullied off the ball by Miroslav Klose. 3.
MARCELO: Muller had a field day against the left-back, who also lost his temper with Jerome Boateng off the ball. 3.
LUIS GUSTAVO: His return was supposed to offer the defence some protection, but he lost his discipline and Toni Kroos took full advantage. 3.
FERNANDINHO: Poor marking allowed Germany to run riot. Another who lacked defensive discipline. 3.
OSCAR: Consolation goal. Failed to provide spark Brazil needed in attack. 4.
HULK: A shadow of the man who bullied Colombia into submission last week. Wasteful on the attack. No surprise he was withdrawn at half-time. 3.
BERNARD: Those who had no idea who he was before kick-off still do not know the answer. Went missing. 3.
FRED: Booed by the home fans by the final whistle. Another who tried to illegally win a penalty in the second half. 3
Substitutes:
PAULINHO (on for Fernandinho, 45mins): Wasted two decent chances. 3.
RAMIRES (on for Hulk, 45mins): Injected more pace into side, but could not stop the goals raining in the other end. 3.
WILLIAN (on for Fred, 70mins): Only bonus was that he could not do worse than the man he came on for. 3.
GERMANY:
MANUEL NEUER: Hardly had a thing to do in the first half, but a couple of good blocks afterwards. 7.
PHILIPP LAHM: One brilliant tackle on Marcelo in his own penalty area, and a creative force down the right too, making two goals. 8
MATS HUMMELS: Stood up strong in the frenetic opening minutes. 7
JEROME BOATENG: Powerful presence and seemed unflappable. 7
BENEDIKT HOWEDES: Faced with Neymar's replacement Bernard and made him look ordinary. 7
SAMI KHEDIRA: An absolute belter of a match in central midfield and a good goal too. 9
BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER: Calm, reassuring presence while his midfield team-mates stole the show. 7
MESUT OZIL: Came alive in this match, his crisp passing knifed through Brazil. 7
MIROSLAV KLOSE: Good goal but could perhaps have added more to his world record. 7
THOMAS MULLER: Brazil could not contain him. One of the players of the tournament. 9
TONI KROOS: Merciless finishing and wonderful movement. 8
Substitutes:
PER MERTESACKER (on for Hummels, 45min): Steady as Brazil played for pride. 6
ANDRE SCHURRLE (on for Klose, 58min): Two excellent finishes - his second truly tremendous. 8
JULIAN DRAXLER (on for Khedira, 75min): Played his part as Germany stayed strong to the end. 6
