SON PEDALS 60 MILES FOR PARKINSON'S

A man whose father has Parkinson's disease has completed a 60-mile bike ride to raise money for others affected by the condition.

Jason Wroe, 43, was among 129 cyclists who took part in Pedal for Parkinson's in Cardiff.

Participants cycled 20 or 60 miles around the Vale of Glamorgan on July 6. Money raised will help Parkinson's UK fund research and support people affected by the disease.

Jason, from Lisvane in Cardiff, was inspired to support the charity after his father Chris Wroe, 74, was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2003.

Jason said: "Dad is permanently living in a care home now. Much of his time is spent asleep these days, but he still has his sense of humour.

"There is a common view that Parkinson's is simply about getting the shakes but there is so much more to it than that, and a lot of the other symptoms are less well known.

"Parkinson's UK does great work in supporting people living with the condition and raising awareness which is why I want to do as much as I can to help."

Cardiff was one of five locations where Pedal for Parkinson's rides are taking place this summer. The charity hopes to raise £20,000 from each event.

Paul Jackson-Clark, director of fundraising at Parkinson's UK, said: "I'd like to say a big thank you and congratulations to Jason and everyone who made Pedal for Parkinson's in Cardiff such a success.

"The funds raised by our fantastic cyclists will make a real difference to the lives of people affected by Parkinson's in Wales."

Jason has raised more than £300 via his Justgiving page. To donate, visit www.justgiving.com/Jason-Wroe4.
