CHILD ALCOHOL SALES CONVICTIONS DIP
The number of people convicted of selling alcohol to children has more than halved under the coalition Government, official figures show.
There were 128 convictions for selling alcohol to under-18s last year, down from 331 in 2009.
The intervening years showed a steady decrease in convictions for the offence, the Ministry of Justice figures showed.
The maximum sentence for the offence under the Licensing Act 2003 is a £5,000 fine but no offenders received this over the entire period.
The figures were released by justice minister Jeremy Wright in response to a written parliamentary question from Labour's shadow home affairs minister Diana Johnson.
