MOTHER UNFAZED BY MURRAY SETBACK

Andy Murray will challenge for more Wimbledon titles despite being knocked out earlier than expected this year, according to his mother.

Judy Murray watched from the players' box as Grigor Dimitrov defeated the Scot in straight sets yesterday.

But she insisted that Andy would return to the top of the sport and declared "form is temporary, class is permanent".

She told BBC Radio 5 Live: "It was a tough one. Obviously Grigor was playing very, very well, very fired up. He was right on it from the start.

"Andy just didn't manage to find his best form. He struggled with his return and particularly on serve throughout the whole match. So it was really tough for him.

"I think every athlete can handle losing if they've played well or played their best and I think when you're on such a big stage as this and especially when you're defending your title and it's in front of your home crowd, I think it is so difficult to take that you haven't managed to find close to your best form.

"But that isn't to take anything away from his opponent who is an outstanding young prospect and he played a fantastic match."

When asked if her son had been distracted by anything before the match, Judy said: "No, not that I'm aware of."

She added that she had spoken to him "just a little bit" today when he was on his way to meet coach Amelie Mauresmo this morning.

"I haven't seen him since then," she said. "I'm sure he'll be back. Form is temporary, class is permanent."
