24-HOUR WALK TO FUND UGANDA TRIP
Teenagers and young adults will take part in a 24-hour sponsored walk to raise money for a volunteering trip to Uganda.
The 16 to 25-year-olds will each walk for an hour at a time during the event at Appleby Frodingham Sports Ground.
Those taking part are members of Scunthorpe Baptist Church. Their walk is part of the church's 2:52 Challenge, a two-year scheme which helps young people to learn new skills, live healthily, and take part in volunteer work.
The final part of the challenge will see young church members travel overseas, with participants raising all funds for the trips themselves.
One group of volunteers plan to visit Uganda for three weeks next summer.
Alison Robinson, youthwork co-ordinator at Scunthorpe Baptist Church, said: "The three weeks the young will spend in Uganda on their overseas experience is designed to stretch them and prove that they can do more than they ever thought possible.
"They will put into practice all the skills that they have learned over the two years, continue to explore their spirituality, volunteer in a community very different to their own and face a physical challenge that will test them to the limit."
Members of the public are invited to join in the sponsored walk, which will take place from July 12 to 13.
