COMPTON SET FOR HOYLAKE

US Open runner-up Erik Compton is one of 10 players to have secured their place in the Open Championship at Hoylake in a fortnight's time.

Compton, who has undergone two heart transplants, was playing in just his second major at Pinehurst, where he finished joint second with Rickie Fowler, eight shots behind runaway winner Martin Kaymer.

The 34-year-old will make his Open debut at Royal Liverpool courtesy of being among the highest ranked non-exempt players in the world rankings at the end of last week, along with Kevin Stadler, JB Holmes, KJ Choi, Charles Howell, Brooks Koepka, Chesson Hadley, Freddie Jacobson, Anirban Lahiri and Scott Stallings.
