Inmate attacks two officers at Qld prison

A prisoner has lashed out at two guards, biting one and injuring both while being restrained at a jail west of Brisbane.

The two custodial corrections officers were trying to restrain a "non-compliant" prisoner at Borallon Training and Correctional Centre when attacked.

One was bitten on the hand and suffered injuries to his leg and foot while the other damaged his wrist and leg.

The pair were taken to the facility's medical centre for assessment then transferred to hospital for further treatment on Friday.

Queensland's Department of Corrective Services said management and senior officers were continuing to support the officers and their families.

The attack comes just two months after the state government increased the maximum penalty for serious assault against a prison officer.

If found guilty, the prisoner could face up to 14 years in jail on top of their custodial sentence.
