Hospital car park extension opening in SA
A multi-deck car park extension at the Lyell McEwin Hospital in Adelaide's north will open to the public on Monday.
The $7 million upgrade will increase parking options for patients, staff and visitors as major works begin upgrading the capacity of the Emergency Department (ED) and Short Stay Mental Health Unit.
The upgrades will alleviate the loss of 67 car parks due to construction of the ED.
In an effort to promote safety of the staff, the 205 new parking spaces over five-levels will be undercover and monitored by security teams.
Northern Adelaide Local Health Network Acting Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Andrew McGill, said the completion of the new car park will help to improve accessibility as demand on the hospital grows.
"The new car park extension incorporates lighting, signage, and full weather protection to ensure safety and security for all users, whilst CCTV is already installed within areas in the existing car park section," he said.
"Providing a safe environment for our staff, patients, and visitors is a high priority."
Parking at the new facility will cost $16 a day and $45 a week for visitors and be free for staff.
