Intruders shoot man in NSW home

A man has been shot in regional NSW with police told he was woken and attacked by two intruders in the early hours of Christmas morning.

Emergency services were called to a Woongarrah home on the Central Coast about 3.30am on Wednesday after neighbours reported hearing the gunshot.

Police found the 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his right hip, and he was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

"Officers have been told the man was asleep in his home when he was woken by two intruders who then shot him before running from the house," NSW Police said in a statement.

The men have been described only as having worn dark clothing.
