Trucks collide, crash into Sydney home

Two drivers have been airlifted to hospital after their trucks collided and then smashed into a Sydney home.

The trucks collided at an intersection in Schofields in Sydney's west about 10.15pm Tuesday before continuing into the front of a two-storey house, with one of the vehicles catching fire.

Neighbours extinguished the fire and got one driver out of his truck, but the second man was trapped and had to be freed by Fire and Rescue NSW officers.

The drivers - aged 29 and 30 - were airlifted to Westmead Hospital with serious leg fractures.

The older man is to undergo surgery for his leg fractures and a dislocated hip.

"The house's brick facade has been damaged and a family in the home at the time are shaken but otherwise uninjured," NSW Police said in a statement.

Tuesday night's collision is one of 72 major crashes reported to police since they began their festive season safe policing campaign on Friday. There have been five fatalities.
