NSW man charged with DV offences, assault

A man has been charged with assaulting a police officer who was trying to arrest him following a domestic violence-related incident in Sydney's eastern suburbs.

The woman called police about 4pm on Monday to tell them a man known to her had entered her unit, assaulted and threatened her.

When officers arrived at the unit in South Coogee, the man fled.

Following a foot pursuit, the man struggled with a probationary constable, causing them to fall down a flight of stairs.

He then allegedly attempted to assault the constable before being arrested.

The 23-year-old man was charged with assaulting police, resisting arrest, being armed with the intent to commit an indictable offence and contravening an apprehended domestic violence order among other offences.

He was refused bail to appear before Waverley Local Court on Tuesday.

The constable was treated for a fractured wrist. The woman did not require medical treatment.
