Man charged over detention centre riot
A Sudanese man accused of taking part in a riot at the Christmas Island detention centre has been arrested to face a Perth court.
Australian Federal Police allege he was among a group of detainees who armed themselves with makeshift weapons and threatened guards in October 2015.
Emergency response officers were allegedly assaulted and buildings damaged during the incident.
The 28-year-old was arrested on Wednesday on an outstanding warrant.
He has been charged with taking part in a riot and a weapon-related offence and will face Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday.
