Man disrupts lighting of Martin Place tree
Three men have been charged after one of them disrupted the lighting of the Martin Place Christmas tree in Sydney's CBD and then resisted police attempts to arrest him.
Thousands of people had gathered for the event about 6.15pm on Saturday when a man climbed on to the stage, disrupting the performance.
Officers removed the man from the stage, then arrested his friends when they allegedly tried to intervene.
Police were told the men had been ejected from a nearby store by security after creating a disturbance, when one allegedly stole a traffic control light wand from an official.
The trio, aged 21, 22 and 23, were charged with offensive behaviour and resisting police among other charges. They have been granted strict conditional bail to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on January 15.
