Larger Qatar Airways plane for Adelaide

Qatar Airways is upgrading its service to Adelaide with a state-of-the-art plane offering more seating, in a major coup for the state's tourism industry.

The Airbus A350-1000 from Doha to Adelaide will increas seating capacity by 16 per cent.

Tourism minister David Ridgway said the announcement comes a result of growing demand for the route.

"By attracting the world's most technologically advanced aircraft in the skies to Adelaide, we not only bring additional passenger capacity to our state but also increased opportunities for freight, export, education and enhanced business links," Mr Ridgeway said on Friday.

He said it was pleasing that senior airline representatives, who visited the state for a development forum in September, had returned to Doha praising South Australia.

The larger aircraft will begin operations in March 2020.

The airline flies to more than 160 global destinations and has more than 250 aircraft in its fleet.
