Qld man charged with attempted murder

A Queensland man who remains in hospital after being shot by police earlier this month has been charged with attempted murder.

The 35-year-old, from Bowen north of the Whitsundays, is accused of breaking into Bowen Police Station while armed with a knife and chain on October 9.

Officers inside tried using tasers before the shots were fired, hitting the man in the abdomen and hand, police said.

The man was flown to Townsville Hospital where he underwent surgery and remains under police guard.

He has been charged with two counts of serious assaulting police and one count each of attempted murder, committing acts intending to do grievous bodily harm, and breaking and entering.

He is listed to appear in Bowen Magistrates Court on December 3.
