Tree falls in rough Vic weather, hurts two

Two people hit by a falling tree in high winds have been hospitalised as Victorians are warned to prepare for the possibility of more rough weather.

The SES on Monday reported receiving 120 calls for help since midnight, mostly about fallen trees.

A man and boy were treated for injuries and taken to hospital in a stable condition through the morning after a tree fell on them at Hazelwood North, southeast of Melbourne.

A 15m tree came down on the side of a home in Ringwood, but nobody was hurt.

Wind and rain picked up in the state's northeast on Friday afternoon, before moving towards Gippsland and coastal areas on Saturday.

Wilsons Promontory recorded winds of about 125 km/h.

Outer Melbourne got a taste of the action on Sunday, with wind lashing northern bayside suburbs, the Dandenongs and the Mornington Peninsula.

Though the weather is set to die down from Monday, Victorian SES Deputy Chief Officer David Baker said the conditions should serve as a warning.

"It's a reminder to all Victorians to be vigilant to the weather, how it's developing and the impacts in their local areas," he told reporters in Melbourne on Monday.
