Man charged over hit-and-run death of 91yo
A 25-year-old driver has been charged in relation to the hit-and-run death of a 91-year-old man in Newcastle almost two years ago.
The elderly man was struck by an SUV while crossing Stedman Street in Mayfield after midday one Friday in November 2017.
The driver didn't stop and the 91-year-old died from his injuries three days later.
Following a "lengthy investigation" detectives visited a Wellington jail on Monday and charged the 25-year-old with dangerous driving causing death and failing to stop and render assistance.
He's due to face Dubbo Local Court on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, NSW Police are searching for the driver of a Queensland-registered bright-blue hatchback after it was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run death near Tweed Heads on Monday.
Detectives say the car hit two motorcycles in Tumbulgum after 3pm with one of the male riders dying at the scene.
"The driver of the vehicle failed to stop," a NSW Police spokesperson said in a statement.
Less than 30 minutes later a man died when his ute crashed into the fence of a Leumeah home in Sydney's southwest.
Ausgrid services attended after live wires were brought down as a result of the crash.
