Contraband seized at Queensland prisons
People are trying to smuggle drugs into Queensland prisons in creative ways but authorities say they are stopping the contraband.
Queensland Corrective Services says it has prevented a large quantity of prohibited items entering prisons across the state in the past month.
Drugs, a tattoo gun, mobile phones, tobacco, USB sticks and cigarette lighters are among the items seized. They did not quantify the amount of drugs.
Deputy Commissioner Custodial Operations Andy Beck said a number of attempts to smuggle in prohibited items "have certainly shown ingenuity".
But officers have intercepted the banned goods.
Bringing in contraband makes prisons less safe for officers, prisoners and visitors, he says.
Anyone caught trying to take a prohibited item into a corrective services facility could face a criminal charge with a penalty of up to two years' imprisonment.
