SA jury hears 000 call in shooting case

Jurors in the trial of an Adelaide man who allegedly shot his ex-partner's new lover have heard the frantic triple-zero call of the woman who found the bloodied pair.

The accused, who can't be identified for legal reasons, has pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of the alleged victim, who was living in the former family home at Littlehampton, in the Adelaide Hills, in 2017.

The Supreme Court has heard the victim retaliated with an axe during the incident, which left the 32-year-old accused man a tetraplegic.

Giving evidence on Tuesday, the woman said her ex-partner, the accused man, was "not happy" when she told him she wanted to separate in the months leading up to the attack.

She said the accused had just dropped off their children and she was inside the house when she heard a loud noise that sounded like a gunshot.

"I entered the garage. I saw (the victim) lying on the floor rolling around in pain. There was blood everywhere," she said.

"He was holding himself. He was asking for help."

The woman said she then spotted the accused, who was slumped over on the ground near the gun safe.

"He wasn't moving or making any sound," she said.

Jurors also heard a panicked triple-zero call made by the woman, in which she told an operator someone had been shot and both people were bleeding.

Both men were seriously injured in the incident, the accused man ultimately left without the use of his arms and legs.

The trial continues before Justice Anne Bampton and a jury.
