Melbourne's West Gate Fwy reopened

Melbourne's West Gate Freeway is back open to traffic after a man was struck by a large truck late on Wednesday night.

Victoria Police believe a truck travelling east on the Westgate Freeway near the Salmon Street overpass hit the man about 11.30pm.

The truck, described as a silver prime-mover towing a white refrigerator trailer, failed to stop at the scene and police are keen to speak to the driver.

The man died at the scene.

The key road was closed overnight but is now open again for the morning traffic peak.
