Man accused of Sydney carjacking
A man has been charged over a terrifying carjacking in Sydney's south that left a 52-year-old woman with stab wounds to her face and neck.
Police say the woman was driving in Kogarah around 9pm on July 9 when a man forced his way into her car, threatened her and demanded she drive him to Maroubra.
When she tried to flee the car at Brighton Le Sands it is alleged the 24-year-old Pyrmont man stabbed her with a multi-tool knife - leaving her with gaping wounds to her face and neck - before driving off in her car.
A short time later that car collided with two other vehicles at an intersection before crashing into a brick wall outside a unit block.
Police arrested the man at the scene and he was taken to St George Hospital with head injuries, where he remains under police guard.
He is facing a string of charges, including aggravated assault and taking or detaining a person with the intent to obtain advantage or occasion actual bodily harm.
The man was refused bail and his case will be mentioned in Sutherland Local Court on Wednesday.
