Second man charged over stand-off shooting

A second man has been charged following a police shooting near the Victoria-NSW border last month.

Joel Clavell, 19, was charged on Friday with a number of offences including assaulting police, exposing police to risk and making threats to kill, Victoria Police confirmed on Wednesday.

He remains under guard in a Melbourne hospital, while his brother Joshua Clavell, aged 30, was earlier charged and remanded in custody.

The brothers were shot by police near a camping ground at Barnawartha North near the NSW border on June 12 after an attempted counter-terror assessment turned violent.

Police allege the duo rammed the officers' car before lunging at them with a knife and a tomahawk.

At least seven police officers were involved in the stand-off, according to court documents.

Both brothers are due to front Melbourne Magistrates Court on September 9.
