Qld regions feel climate impacts: Premier
Regional Queenslanders have an intimate understanding of the effects of climate change, says Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.
Those in the state's north have to deal with floods, drought and cyclones while farmers deal with climate change every day, Ms Palaszczuk told a climate conference co-headlined by former US President Al Gore in Brisbane on Friday.
She highlighted recent extreme weather events and natural disasters as examples, including fires in Gladstone and Bundaberg.
Ms Palaszczuk quoted observations from a scientist who said they were "the terrestrial equivalent of ice sheets breaking up".
After detailing the destruction that can be caused by changes in climate she talked up what she described as a "renewable energy boom" which has created 4000 jobs in four years.
