NSW cops assaulted in two separate attacks
Two NSW police officers have been assaulted in the space of a few hours in separate incidents - one involving a pub brawl and the other an allegedly stolen car.
Three men became enraged after police shut down a pub at Raymond Terrace north of Newcastle on Thursday evening following a fight.
"The men allegedly refused (to move on) and became aggressive towards police, during which time a male senior constable was allegedly struck to the head with a glass bottle and punched several times in the head by a 19-year-old man," police said in a statement on Friday.
Two other men, aged 22 and 24, attempted to help the younger man before officers used OC spray to arrest the trio.
All three were charged with failing to leave licensed premises, affray, hindering police and resisting arrest.
The 19-year-old was also charged with assaulting police.
The senior constable received minor swelling around his head but wasn't hospitalised.
Meanwhile, two people have been charged after a police officer was injured while attempting to stop a stolen vehicle in Sydney's south.
Two officers tried to stop the hatchback at Engadine on Thursday afternoon.
As a senior constable approached the car the male driver, 35, allegedly reversed into four vehicles including a police car.
The man and his passenger, a 36-year-old woman, then allegedly fled on foot.
"The officer was injured when he was allegedly struck by the hatchback's door," a police spokesperson said.
