No word on Victorian recycling resolution

There's still no word on when one of Victoria's major recycling companies will be allowed to start accepting goods, with some councils continuing to send items to landfill in the meantime.

Recycling giant SKM collects half of the state's kerbside recycling but some of its plants have been shut down by the Environment Protection Authority amid fears of stockpiles catching alight.

"The moment they are compliant with waste guidelines, which means they need their stockpiles in reasonable sizes, with good separation distances, so that if one pile catches alight it doesn't transfer to the next one so our fire agencies can get in safely," EPA Victoria chief Cathy Wilkinson told ABC Radio on Wednesday of when SKM can reopen.
