Recycling could go to landfill in Victoria
Items usually fit for recycling could end up in landfill after stockpiling at Victorian collection centres sparked a crackdown by the Environmental Protection Authority.
Two SKM recycling facilities at Coolaroo and Laverton North were ordered to stop accepting waste this week due to stockpiling issues. Fire engulfed the Coolaroo facility in 2017 and burnt for weeks.
"As a last resort, some contractors may need to consider landfill as a short-term solution until other arrangements are in place," Municipal Association Victoria spokeswoman Mary Lalios said on Friday.
