Jet ski rally at Vic beaches for safety

A jet ski rally will tour three Victorian beaches in one day to talk water safety.

The troop of jet skis will go to Dromana, Rosebud and Rye where there is major concern over public safety and calls for designated areas for certain activities, says Mornington Peninsula Mayor David Gill.

"The separation and declaration of separate beaches for swimming, jet skis and personal watercraft would ultimately provide jet ski riders and swimmers with more certainty and safety for operating in Port Phillip and Westernport Bay," he said in a statement.

"A local petition signed by 5500 residents of Rye and surrounding areas calling for action to separate jet skis from swimming areas, has been forwarded to the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council and the Victorian Government."

Mornington Council will meet with state government agencies on Wednesday to discuss the issue.
