Nephew charged over Qld man's murder

A Queensland man has been charged with the stabbing murder of his restaurateur uncle outside his Brisbane home in 2017.

Za'id Abdus Samad, 21, was on Wednesday charged with stabbing 35-year-old Abdul Basith Mohammed to death in the front yard of his Saint George Street home at Kuraby.

It was just after midnight on October 25, and he had gone outside to investigate after someone turned off the power.

The case was mentioned briefly in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday and Abdus Samad was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on February 4.

Mr Mohammed's wife and children were home at the time of the killing.

CCTV footage released by Queensland police during their investigation shows a man in a hooded jumper walking along Saint George Street and Beenleigh Road.

He is seen running in the opposite direction a short time later.

Last year a secondary crime scene was established at an address on Didcot Street in Kuraby where Abdus Samad lived.

Homicide detectives carried out an extensive examination of the property and its surrounds.
