Dogs stretch rules with Martin in NSW Cup
Canterbury appear to have stretched the rules to the limit with back-row star Rhyse Martin making a three-second appearance in their NSW Cup game.
Martin ran straight from the field after the ball was kicked off on Sunday and was over the touchline before the ball had been caught by the North Sydney opposition.
He was scheduled to back up in the Bulldogs' NRL clash with the Warriors at ANZ Stadium later in the afternoon.
Martin has this year established himself as an NRL star of the future but is set to be available for the side's reserve grade side during their NSW Cup finals run thanks to his fleeting appearance.
Under NSWRL rules, players can only turn out for their club in the state league finals if they have played eight reserve grade matches during the year.
Before this week, Martin had played seven NSW Cup games in 2018.
The Bulldogs' ploy left them with just three men on the bench for the rest of the NSW Cup game but they still ran out 40-28 winners.
The NSWRL have been approached for comment.
