Hobart to stage terror simulation exercise

Low-flying helicopters, emergency vehicles and armed soldiers will soon be swarming Hobart as part of counter-terrorism training exercises.

Tasmania Police and the Australian Defence Force on Monday announced the training exercises would take place "soon" in the Hobart area and waterfront.

Some of the training involves low-flying helicopters, the use of blank ammunition and other pyrotechnics.

Tasmania Police said the exercises are for training only and there is no threat or danger to the public.

"We thank you for your patience and apologise for the unavoidable noise," the force said in a statement.
