Government to probe power price gouging
Allegations that electricity networks and gas companies are gouging customers hundreds of millions of dollars to pay their corporate tax bills are set to be investigated by the Australian Energy Regulator.
Federal energy minister Josh Frydenberg is expected to announce the AER probe amid suspicion energy companies are overcharging customers by as much as $400 million a year.
"It is totally unacceptable for consumers to be charged for corporate tax liabilities that are not actually incurred," Mr Frydenberg said in comments carried by both Fairfax Media and News Corp Australia on Tuesday.
