Psychologist charged with more assaults

A NSW psychologist has now been charged with assaulting eight male patients ranging in ages from nine to 26 over the past few years.

Senior detectives on Thursday laid 23 new charges against the 52-year-old, NSW Police said in a statement on Friday.

It i alleged he groomed and indecently assaulted five patients between 2015 and 2017 on the state's north coast. They were aged between nine and 22 at the time.

It comes nearly a year after detectives first arrested the man after investigating reports a young boy had been indecently assaulted.

The psychologist was arrested at a Coffs Harbour clinic in May 2017 and charged with four counts of indecent assault against a person under 16.

He was charged again in November with assaulting a second young male patient earlier in the year during sessions.

He was subsequently charged in December with possessing child abuse material and aggravated indecent assault and an aggravated act of indecency. The victim in that instance was 26.

The accused remains in custody and is next due to face Coffs Harbour Local Court on Tuesday.
