Perth lithium refinery to boost production
A lithium refinery will be built in Perth's southern suburbs in a joint venture to meet increasing global demand for the mineral from the renewable energy industry.
The Western Australian government has also announced $5.5 million in funding will be set aside in next week's budget for the Mineral Research Institute of Western Australia to boost the development and manufacturing of renewable technologies.
Mines and Petroleum Minister Bill Johnston said WA is the world's largest producer of lithium, and combined with reserves of it and other metals was well-placed to capitalise on the growing battery market.
