The Spit site on Gold Coast focus of talks

A slice of state-owned land on the Gold Coast once earmarked for a $3 billion Chinese-backed casino is again at the centre of development discussions.

Community groups are meeting with officials to discuss ways to further develop and conserve The Spit, a parcel of parkland owned by the Queensland government.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk terminated plans for a high rise development at the site in August, pointing to likely rate and tax increases should it have gone ahead, as well as a community desire to preserve it.
