Controversial artist set to rock The Voice

A controversial artist is set to spice things up with their divisive performance on the upcoming season of The Voice Australia.

Returning host Sonia Kruger said the singer stirs things up between this year's coaches - Boy George, Kelly Rowland, Delta Goodrem and Joe Jonas.

"There's a little bit of tension between the coaches and something that happens, there's a controversial artist and their performance and style of performance is quite divisive and that causes a few issues among the coaching panel," Kruger said.

"For me I think it's probably going to be one of the biggest moments of the series."

The show is coming into its seventh season in Australia and its first with American star Joe Jonas on the coaching panel.

Kruger revealed the singer nearly received her wrath after an incident outside the TV studio.

"I was leaving one day from the studio and this guy nearly flew a drone into my car and I was about to abuse him, but when I wound my window down I realised it was Joe and that's how he was keeping himself busy in between filming, he was flying a drone around the studio," she said.

"Joe is that LA-cool kind of guy, he reminds me a little bit of Adam Levine from Maroon 5: very cool, very unflappable, but I think deep down has a very strong desire to win."

There's always been a sense of healthy competition on the show - over the last two years Goodrem has managed to win with her contestants Alfie Arcuri and Judah Kelly but that doesn't mean she's resting on her laurels this season.

"There are hilarious moments, especially from George," Kruger said.

"But Delta has been there from the very beginning and is keen to win, she wants to make it a hat trick."

Kruger says there are some dramatic twists and turns coming up on the TV talent show that will really get people talking.

"It's shocking and surprising. There's something that's going to be one of those real water cooler topics," she said.

"Just throw the rule book out the window."
