Second strike for XXXX Qld workers

Workers at Brisbane's XXXX brewery are set to strike for a second time as they demand more employment security amid fears the brewery's owners are planning to shift to casual workers.

The United Voice union has released an email sent by brewer Lion to its staff calling on them to be more flexible in their working arrangements.

"The long term viability of our brewery at XXXX is dependent on our ability to be flexible and responsive to changes at a level that we have not seen in the past," the email reads.

"Staying the way we are is not an option for the long term."

It follows suggestions XXXX was planning to create a cheaper workforce by employing contract staff at a lower pay rate through a third party.

United Voice Queensland spokesperson Damien Davie said the email sounded "like a threat".

"While XXXX is saying publicly they won't leave Queensland high and dry, they have sent an email to their workers that says staying the way they are is not an option," Mr Davie said in a statement.

"XXXX workers don't deserve to have management constantly threaten the security of their jobs, and refusing to guarantee their conditions through enterprise bargaining."

Wednesday's strike is the second action as part of the current negotiations, with almost 70 workers at the Milton brewery walking off the job last month.

XXXX has also rejected claims the brewery will close and move to NSW.
