Two critical after Sydney house fire

Two people suffered horrific burns and are fighting for life after a fire engulfed a home in Sydney's north.

Emergency services were called to the Marsfield address after 4pm on Wednesday following reports people were injured in a house fire.

A man in his mid-40s received significant burns to 70 per cent of his body and was found unconscious at the scene by paramedics.

He was flown to Royal North Shore Hospital by helicopter in a critical condition.

The man has been placed in an induced coma, authorities say.

A 29-year-old woman also received burns to 70 per cent of her body and was taken to the same hospital by ambulance in a critical condition.

Vision from the scene showed emergency crews working to stabilise patients and secure the area while smoke filled the street.

An eight-year-old girl was treated for smoke inhalation and taken to Westmead Children's Hospital in a serious condition while an adult man was assessed for smoke inhalation but was not hospitalised.
