Quiksilver, Roxy Pro moved north to Kirra

A huge swell at Kirra Point has set the stage for a dramatic day of finals in the opening World Surf League event of the season on Thursday.

The Quiksilver and Roxy Pro have been shifted north from Snapper Rocks to take advantage of monstrous waves between 2.5m to 3m, conditions which come courtesy of ex-Tropical Cyclone Linda off the Gold Coast.

The men's quarter-finals will begin at 9.15am AEDT with three Australians - defending champion Owen Wright, Adrian Buchan and Julian Wilson - still in contention.

An Australian women's finalist is also guaranteed with Sally Fitzgibbons and Keely Andrew to square off in the semis.
