Gupta gets approval for iron ore mines
British industrialist Sanjeev Gupta who recently bought the Whyalla steelworks has added to his South Australian portfolio with two mining leases.
Mr Gupta's SIMEC Mining has received approval for the Iron Sultan mine to supply his steelworks and also for the Iron Warrior mine, which is expected to export around 1.5 million tonnes of iron ore a year, SA Mineral Resources Minister Tom Koutsantonis says.
"Iron Sultan will play a significant role in reducing the costs of steelmaking at Whyalla steelworks while Iron Warrior continues South Australia's role as a reliable iron ore exporter," Mr Koutsantonis said.
