Man dies at Sydney dance music festival

A man at a Sydney dance festival has died and other ravers have been hospitalised, prompting pleas from police for people to party safer.

The 26-year-old man from the southern NSW town of Albury was found unconscious in a tent at the Defqon 1 festival in Penrith just after 11pm on Saturday night.

Police say the man's friends gave him first aid until paramedics arrived but he died after arriving at Nepean Hospital.

It is the second death linked to the festival in recent years; a 23-year-old man died from a drug overdose at Defqon in 2013.

It is now up to the NSW coroner to determine the cause of the most recent death.

"It's too early in the investigation to know if it is drugs or not," Detective Inspector Grant Healey told reporters on Sunday.

But he added drug use at events such as Defqon was "incredibly frustrating" for police and emergency workers.

"It's adults making really poor adult decisions," Det Insp Healey said.

"Just remember, some person with no quality control is making stuff that can come out of their kitchen sink for you to take, and that can ruin your life."

Police arrested 60 people at the three-day festival, and most arrests were related to drug offences.

Two people were allegedly caught with 46 pills between them.
