Govt to spend $35m on dementia research

In good news for dementia sufferers, the federal government has committed $35 million to research projects dedicated to preventing and curing the disease.

Health Minister Sussan Ley says one of the six dementia research team grants to be funded will go to the world's largest dementia clinical trial, in which people aged 55 to 75 will test an online tool to reduce the risk of the disease.

The funding was essential given the number of Australians with dementia is expected to explode to more than one million in the next 40 years, she said on Friday.
