My phone is my worst enemy: Poehler
American actress Amy Poehler says she refuses to go on social media but admits she is still "totally addicted" to her smartphone, which causes her struggles on a daily basis.
The American comedienne and actress, in Australia to promote her latest Disney Pixar animation Inside Out, told the Kyle and Jackie O show that her phone is both her "best friend" and "her worst enemy".
"It's a total struggle for me constantly. I'm addicted to it.
"I'm in a room, everybody's on their phone right now, everybody.
"It's a pacifier, it's what you do to comfort yourself and soothe yourself and it's where everybody goes to look for comfort and a hit and when they dont get it, it's frustrating. It's a nightmare, it's a beautiful nightmare," she said. "It's like my best friend and my worst enemy."
The Parks and Recreation actress says she sometimes forces herself to take time out from her device and take in the world around her.
"It's fascinating when you put your phone down even for a day, the conversation you have, the eye contact you have. It's just the craving of it, we're totally, totally addicted."
A sketch of today's society would simply be "all of us bent over, standing next to each other and talking to each other on the phone", she jokes.
Poehler says she is not on Facebook or Instagram because she "doesn't have the constitution" to handle others posting constantly about their lives, but she has created her own Smart Girls blog on Tumblr, which she says allows her to "connect with wonderful people across the world".
"It feels a little less gross than Instagraming pictures of me with my omelette."
Poehler's new film Inside Out personifies a set of emotions - joy, anger, disgust, fear and sadness - that play out inside an 11-year-old girl's head, with Poehler playing Joy.
The 43 year old says she has relished the opportunity to promote the movie Down Under, her first visit to our shores.
"It's been awesome, the people are so great and funny and Australia's beautiful."
*Inside Out is in Australian cinemas currently.
