Drugs and crime statistics for Australia

THE NUMBERS ON ORGANISED CRIME AND DRUGS IN AUSTRALIA:

* Organised crime is costing Australia more than $30 billion per year.

* Cocaine use is higher in Victoria and NSW than the rest of the country.

* Cannabis remains the most commonly-used illicit drug, with Australian use reported to be above the global average.

* Ice use has been growing, partly because it can be smoked instead of injected.

* While methylamphetamine has been traditionally supplied domestically, there's been an increase in the number of detections of ice at the border.
